Acting Fundamentals (Autumn Term)

This 6-week workshop is open to everyone. If you wish to develop your fundamental toolkit as an actor, then this is the one for you.

Key concepts and techniques explored will include: acting as reacting, how to break down a text, embodying a character, responding truthfully in the moment – and finding a real emotional connection.

Collective’s approach to acting synthesises exercises from some of the greatest practitioners, including Stanislavski, Meisner, Hagen, Adler, Laban and Katie Mitchell.

Week 1:

  • Physical Alignment Work
  • Katie Mitchell’s Facts and Questions
  • Paying Limitless Attention to Your Partner / Communion (Stanislavsky)
  • Playing an Objective / Objective Exercises
  • Mirroring/Listing Your Partner

Week 2:

  • Swings
  • Stanislavsky’s Active Analysis

Week 3:

  • Stanislavsky’s Units and Objectives
  • Inner Monologue exercise

Week 4:

  • Playing of Characteristics
  • Katie Mitchell’s Events
  • Repetition

Week 5:

  • Stella Adler’s Actioning
  • Scene Work

Week 6:

  • Actions Game
  • Individual Scene Work with Feedback

Actors who attend Collective in the last three years have gone on to work in Hollywood films, on Broadway, for the National Theatre, in the West End and in series for Netflix, HBO, BBC, ITV and Channel 4.

We are passionate about working with actors from underrepresented groups and we will always seek to break down barriers to access in professional actor-training. Scholarships are available for those who are facing challenging circumstances.
