Write Your Own Screenplay – ONLINE (Autumn Term)
Do you need to want to write and develop your own screenplays?
This affordable, six-week course will allow you to work with established screenwriters to explore the fundamentals of writing a screenplay. By the end of the course, you will have developed the knowledge, skills and understanding you need to progress as a screenwriter.
This course will be taught by the fantastic Chima Nsoedo.
Chima is a writer, director, and poet whose work spans web series, short films, commercial projects, and poetry. He began his creative career in the UK’s DIY arts movement, writing, directing, and starring in the web series Everything a Hero is Not (2013) and A Safe Space (2017). His short film work includes Danielle Belinda Zhawi (Channel 4 Random Acts, 2014) and The Couple (2018), which reflect his interest in intimate, socially engaged storytelling.
Chima has worked for over a decade as a commercial filmmaker with production companies such as Somesuch, Hearst, Bauer Media, and Academy Films. In 2020, he wrote the script for Stormzy’s acclaimed music video Superheroes and has also delivered commissioned work for institutions including Tate Modern, Frieze, Thiird Magazine, and Greenpeace.
Currently a student at the National Film and Television School (NFTS), Chima continues to develop new work that blends historical research, personal experience, and poetic language. His writing has reached the semi-finals of ScreenCraft and the finals of The Pitch UK.
Sessions will explore: an understanding of story structure, character development, dialogue, screenplay format, and the overall process of writing a script.
Other topics covered include story ideation, loglines, character arcs, scene writing, treatments, drafting, and revision. Whether you want to write a feature film, pilot, web series, or short film, this course will provide you with the core knowledge and skills you need to start writing your first screenplay.
