Short Film Project
Do you want to learn how to make your own short film?
In this brand-new course which Corry Raymond will lead, you will explore the creative process for writing, devising, filming acting in, and promoting a brand-new short film. From the moment of identifying the first idea, through to post-production, you will develop the acting, technical, and entrepreneurial skills/know-how you need to work on your own independent projects – and see them find a professional audience.
Below is an overview of the workshops:
Week 1: Pre-Production & Idea Development• Focus: Generating ideas and understanding pre-production essentials.• Topics: Brainstorming, refining ideas, themes, and messages. Basics of planning: location scouting, props, budget.
Week 2: Scriptwriting Fundamentals• Focus: Turning ideas into a structured script.• Topics: Script formatting, character development, the three-act structure, and dialogue basics.
Week 3: Shooting on DSLRs & iPhones• Focus: Capturing quality footage with accessible equipment.• Topics: Basics of DSLR and iPhone filming, manual settings (focus, exposure, ISO), stabilisation, and maximising quality with everyday tools.
Week 4: Filming & Camera Techniques• Focus: Developing a deeper understanding of camera techniques.• Topics: Camera setup, lighting basics, continuity, shooting for the edit, camera movement, and working efficiently on set.
Week 5: Editing• Focus: Assembling and refining the film in post-production.• Topics: Importing and organising footage, basic editing (cutting, transitions, pacing), adding sound, basic colour correction, and exporting for different platforms.
Week 6: Promoting, Advertising & Festivals• Focus: Sharing the finished film and finding an audience.• Topics: Creating promotional materials (posters, trailers), social media marketing, networking tips for film festivals, and submitting to festivals.
Actors trained at Collective have gone on to work in Hollywood films, on Broadway, for the National Theatre, in the West End and in series for Netflix, HBO, BBC, ITV and Channel 4.
We are passionate about working with actors from underrepresented groups and we will always seek to break down barriers to access in professional actor-training.
